Microsoft Invests $10 Billion In OpenAI

Microsoft has announced a multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. It will be making an investment worth $10 billion in OpenAI, which is the research lab behind the famous ChatGPT and DALL-E.

The renewed partnership will accelerate breakthroughs in the segment of artificial intelligence while helping both companies to commercial advanced technologies in the future.

Microsoft backed OpenAI with $1 billion in July 201, and the investment made Microsoft the “exclusive” provider of cloud computing services to OpenAI. It was remarked by Microsoft that Azure will continue to serve as OpenAI’s exclusive provider.

Microsoft is expected to receive a 75% share of OpenAI’s profits until it makes back the money on its investment, after which it would assume a 49% stake in OpenAI.

The AI model of OpenAI, itself a variant of the GPT-3 family of large language models, has been used for everything from developing code to writing college essays.

The investment of Microsoft will also help the two companies engage in supercomputing at scale and create new AI-powered experiences.
