Microsoft Teams Gets Safer With Phishing Protection For Office 365 Users

According to an announcement by Microsoft, Safe Links in Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is now available in its video conferencing software. This will help protect users of Microsoft Teams from link-based phishing attacks as URLs are scanned by Safe Links in Defender for Office 365 at the time of click to make sure that users visit safe websites.

Microsoft Defender for Office 365 scans for malware, phishing attempts, and other security threats on SharePoint, OneDrive, Office apps, and now Microsoft Teams.

Since its introduction in 2015, Safe Links has remained an important feature in Defender for Office 365. In an official blog post, Microsoft said, "At its core, Safe Links provides time-of-click verification of URLs. This process entails scanning URLs for potentially malicious content and again evaluating them when they are clicked on by a user. "

Safe Links for Microsoft Teams will be made available to users who are on both Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Defender for Office 365.

The detection systems of Safe Links identify approximately 2 million distinct URL-based payloads each month that are used by cybercriminals to conduct credential phishing campaigns. Users can enable this new security feature by configuring a Safe Links policy in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal.
